Joy's first Dr Appointment

I took Joy to the doctor today for her well checkup. She got her first shots ever. She screamed and then when it was all over decided it was nothing to cry about and cooed.

She is 3.75 months old and weighs 14 lbs 12 oz and is 24.5 inches long. She is a big girl. He said she is slightly ahead developmentally and is strong and will be rolling soon.

The Zoo (last Friday)

On Friday we all went to the Santa Barbara Zoo.
Here is Josh sliding down the slippery hill with Katie:

Grandma and Grandpa with baby Joy:

They had a lot of birds there:

I was very happy with my polarizer and fancy camera. This was a low light situation through glass and it came out great:

Look! Look!:

You could smell the elephants long before you could see them. LOL! Here is one of them:

Katie and Daddy:

I have to say how wonderful it was to be walking around a zoo with my girls and realizing that just three months ago I was recovering from a life threatening situation and was unable to even get up to go to the bathroom. Praise God for continued healing.

Joy is 3 months old Today!

Here are some pictures of Joy today. I might even take some more.

Katie my little model

Yesterday I was set up to take someone elses' picture but Katie can't let a studio setup go without her posing and getting her picture taken. So I took these pictures to make her happy so I could go on with my work. These are just natural light pics so they weren't the sharpest but I still thought they were cute. There will be more pictures today because today Joy is 3 months old! So tune in later to see some more:

Big Smile for the Big Sis

Just now Joy smiled at Katie for the first time. She gives mommy and daddy smiles all the time but this was the first one aimed directly at Katie. Up until now Katie has seemed more interested in Joy than vice versa. Maybe today was the beginning of a wonderful sister relationship. (oh and once she started she just kept smiling at Katie and trying to get her attention - very very cute!!)

Joined the Discovery Museum Today

Today I took Katie and Joy to the discovery museum and bought a year pass. Katie had a great time. Her cheeks were pink from running around and playing. We were there for almost three hours and she never got the slightest bit bored. http://www.smvdiscoverymuseum.org/

Some Summer Pictures of the Girls

Katie enjoys wearing hats now because of the "Do you like my hat" lines in Go Dog Go!

DVR not working correctly

So for the last week my DVR hasn't been working properly. It says it is going to record Jay Leno for me and then it doesn't. I can't stay up late enough to make sure it does its important task so it is an unpleasant surprise every morning. I love DVR'ing Jay Leno and then watching just the monologue and the next little funny part right before bed. Of course there are only 5 Leno episodes a week and 7 nights a week so just two weeks ago I started recording Jimmy Kimmel as well for the 'no Leno' nights. His monologue isn't nearly as good but it gets me through the 'No Leno' days. Well the DVR doesn't like Kimmel either and isn't recording him (even though it promises it will in the To-Do list.

I've tried reseting the machine and it still didn't work. It still however recorded Backyardagins and we now have 49 episodes of that safely recorded for Katie to watch whenever we need a break. I am reluctant to complain to the company that it isn't working because what if they give us a new one and we lose all those episodes of Backyardagins. Leno really isn't that important - I do have my priorities.

Sigh. Maybe the machine will fix itself soon. He's probably just reruns this week anyway due to the 4th of July weekend coming up.

More Library Book Reviews

Okay, I need to run to the library today to pick up a photo shop book I have on hold (Scott Kelby's channels book) so I thought I'd review all Katie's books (even though they aren't due yet) so I can return the ones she doesn't really love.

Llama, Llama mad at mama by Anna Dewdney - This book was recommended by my friend Crystal and I'm so thankful she suggested it. Katie LOVES it. I think Katie looks forward to bedtime so we can read it together. I often end up reading this one to her several times a day. It has such a fun rhyme to it and I can pause and Katie can say the missing words. This is a book that we should own because I'm sad at the thought of returning it and will probably renew this one.

The seven silly eaters by Mary Ann Hoberman - This is a cute book and we've enjoyed it but we don't need to own it. I might want to check it out again someday. It was not as good as her book "The Two Sillies".

The eensy weensy spider by Mary Ann Hoberman - I really haven't read this to Katie much. I guess it didn't strike either one of us as fantastic.

Richard Scarry's Busy Busy Town by Richard Scarry - Katie prefers to look at this one all by herself rather than have it read to her. She was really into it for the first week but hasn't hardly looked at it since. I might want to get other books by this author though and see if we can't find something that will be a huge hit. There is potential here.

Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson - This is supposed to be a classic. And I like the way it really shows how fun imagination can be but Katie and I really didn't enjoy it. It really wasn't colorful enough (something very important to Katie) and with no color and no rhyme we really didn't like it.

Go, Dog, Go! by P D Eastman - This is the household favorite. It has been wonderful for Katie. She loves loves loves it! There is this part where two dogs greet each other and one asks the other if he likes her hat and Katie loves that part and recites it regularly during the day. Katie can practically read this book to herself. We really need to buy this book but in the meantime I plan to renew it. It is a must for bedtime every night.
